In this thoughtful article, John Chan compares the relative merits of the upcoming Windows 8 tablets, including the Microsoft Surface with those of the iPad. I agree with his ultimate conclusion: “Sure there is a group who want to do serious work on a tablet, and a Windows 8 device would fit that bill because it will also be a full-fledged PC. But for the majority, an iPad will still fit their needs, and they will probably wait and see what Windows 8 offers before making a choice.” My bet is that most of the lawyers who use tablets for work are in the “serious work” group and will eventually want the more powerful Windows 8 devices.
